Registration info for scoutmasters, assistant scoutmasters, cubmasters, assistant cubmasters, all Den and Webelos leaders in Troop and Pack 457:

1. For volunteers serving the youth of our area, it is necessary for St. Patrick's Church, our Chartered Organiation, to run more formal background checks on our adult leaders (see http://www.adw.org/youth/protect_index.asp). We started this process a few years ago and have most leaders who have either completed their training or their background checks as required. to reiteerate our policy: We require all existing and potential leaders (see above) to have their fingerprints taken for a criminal background check. The fingerprint location is very convenient to us at St. Francis in Derwood off of Muncaster Mill Road. Please see the attached for directions in setting up your appointment. This is a one-time process that will cost $36. Both the Pack and the Troop have agreed to pay for this expense. Cub Scout Leaders that are cleared do not need to redo the process when they move to the Troop. When you apply for the background check please make sure to identify yourselves as volunteers with St. Patrick's in Rockville.

2. We also require "ADW Child Protection Training" as presented by the Archdiocese of Washington in addition to "BSA Youth Protection Training" mentioned below. This website will give you times and locations of the ADW training: http://www.adw.org/news/default.asp?eventtype=14

3. Also please check your BSA training records for your Youth Protection Training date. The training is only good for two years and must be retaken if you are to remain a leader in the Troop or Pack. Training can be taken on-line at: http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org/pages/266_youth_protection_training.cfm. Thank you for your cooperation in this necessary training.

Yours in Scouting,
